Our academic calendar is 180 days of instruction. It is similar to the Kent County Public School calendar in that we do our best to align the larger breaks for families. The academic calendar includes time off for major holidays, a 3-day break for Thanksgiving, 1 to 1.5 week break for Christmas, and a week break for Easter.
Our summer schedule consists of several weeks of Summer Camp full of outdoor time, water play, arts and crafts, and field trips.
Kinder Connection practices a regular but flexible schedule allowing children to experience both consistency and the room to play and be children without rigidity. We follow a routine, not a clock!
Infants for the first several months are fed and sleep according to their cues. As they approach the age of 1 and are ready, infants follow a 2 nap per day schedule and then reduce to 1 nap per day as they are ready. This allows them to fully participate in learning time in the morning. Children are not required to sleep during our quiet time, but they must respect others who are resting.
General Schedule – Times vary 10-15 minutes based on that day’s flow.
Breakfast is served at 8:00
Learning time begins at 8:30 with Circle time, Math, Language
Choice time / Small Group / Art is at 9:00
AM snack is served at 9:30
Outdoor time is at 9:45
Lunch is served at 11:00
Music and Movement is at 11:30
Literacy is at 11:45
Afternoon nap/quiet time begins at 12:00
PM snack is served at 2:15
PM learning/sensory activity is at 2:30
Dismissal begins at 2:50
Please note that we frequently take field trips. On field trip days, schedule may vary.
Vacation/Holidays
In addition to major holidays, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter break, we also take off 2-weeks in summer. This allows the staff a break to be with their family without interruption and allows for any building repairs to occur. While the holiday breaks are paid by families, the 2 weeks of summer vacation are not paid.
All holiday and vacation weeks are announced to parents in advance. Families receive a calendar with dates for the next 6 months upon enrollment.
